Assessment Methods

All students will need to complete their assessment online, even those who are attending in-person classes. Our online learning platform is available 24/7, allowing you to access your course anytime, anywhere in the world. This flexibility makes it easier to balance your studies with work, family, and other commitments.

Assessment tasks are designed to prepare you for a real-world environment, ranging from short, multiple choice answer questions right up to larger projects, where you learn to plan and deliver your own lessons. The course is designed around a series of guided tasks that align with the topics covered in each unit. Your Trainer will be there to answer any questions, provide guidance, and offer feedback as you progress.

The types of assessment tasks include:
  • multiple choice, short answer and long answer questions
  • case studies
  • research essays
  • creating lesson plans and whole syllabi
  • observing an experienced teacher and recording what you see
  • practice teaching of English as a Second Language (ESL) lessons
  • collecting and creating a portfolio of ESL lesson plans, resources and activities

The assessment is competency based. This means that you will be graded as 'competent' (C) or 'not yet competent' (NYC). If you are graded NYC you will be provided with specific feedback about how to improve and given another opportunity to resubmit you assessment.

The TESOL courses use a holistic assessment approach, where units build upon each other. For example, skills required for teaching reading are closely related to those for teaching writing, and these connections are addressed throughout the course.

You must complete all assessment for the whole course to be awarded the full qualification. If a you withdraw from the course after completing the theory of the course, but before you have completed all practical placement, then you may be awarded a few units of competency (depending on assessment items completed).
