English teaching
job boom

Why are there so many English teaching jobs in Australia right now?

Last updated: 9th September 2022
Have you looked at the English teaching job vacancies recently? The list is insane! Employers are thinking outside the box trying to get English teachers in. We regularly get emails asking if we know of any graduates looking for a job. So why is this all happening right now?

The global COVID-19 pandamic caused A LOT of disruption to happen. One of them being the flow of overseas students. In Australia the enrolments for overseas students dwindled to almost nothing. Borders were shut, people were locked down. In person English teaching was haulted and changed to online learning, which works really well for some but not preferable for others.

For years now the international education industry in Australia has been limited in its ability to welcome international students to our shores. But things are changing in a big way. Hundreds of thousands of students are set to come into Australia for study next year. A lot of those students will be seeking English classes or one-on-one tuition to help them through their studies.

Without the high volume of international students from 2020 to 2022, a lot of English teachers were forced to move on to other professions, leaving a gap in the skilled workforce. English training providers are now struggling to find enough teachers to fill the positions that are opening up.

So if you've been thinking of getting into English teaching, then you've picked the right time!

If you're ready to choose a meaningful and truly rewarding pathway that can make a difference in other people's lives, then we encourage you to pursue a future in teaching English - we can help you with that, contact us to find out how.
