How do electives work?
To successfully complete the Certificate IV in TESOL Course, you must complete one (1) elective unit in addition to the core units.
Your elective may vary depending on your class location (some locations have an elective unit pre-selected). Or if you study via online distance education, then you have the flexibility to choose your own elective. You can select your elective unit before starting the course or wait until you've begun working through the core units to decide which option best aligns with your interests and goals. Many elective units complement the core course content and assessment tasks. For example, if you choose "Teach English to Primary School-Aged Learners," you can complete your practice teaching in a classroom setting designed for children aged 6–12 years. Other electives, such as "Use Music, Art, and Drama in TESOL" or "Use Technology to Assist ESL Learning," provide creative teaching strategies that can be applied across all age groups. While selecting a certain elective won't lock you into a teaching area, you can use your elective choice to tailor your TESOL journey to match your teaching goals, interests, or preferred student demographic. |
