1. Vocational Competencies:
LTi Trainer RPL Process - Why we do it:
LTi acknowledges that a TESOL Professional may already hold TESOL related qualifications which outrank the Diploma of TESOL. The reason that LTi came to the decision to require its Trainers to hold the 10688NAT - Diploma of TESOL was
it provides an effective means of demonstrating that a trainer has exactly the skills and knowledge being imparted through the Certificate IV and Diploma of TESOL Training. It is also
the best way to show that a Trainer meets the Australian Government requirements regarding trainers needing to have qualifications which directly relate to the qualification that they're delivering.
The RPL process means that we evaluate all trainers qualifications / experience
and check that they have the exact sames skills and knowledge
as covered by the LTi Cert IV and Diploma
of TESOL. When this process is complete, the trainers are then eligible to be granted the relevant Certificate IV and or Diploma of TESOL qualifications.
Additionally, at the end of the RPL process the trainer has another qualification to add to their portfolio.
Another benefit is undergoing the RPL process for the 10688NAT - Diploma of TESOL can be used as evidence of Professional Development in the VET environment, which is part of the
ASQA requirement for Trainers
.
A person who holds a Master's degree (eg in TESOL, or in Education with a TESOL major) may not actually have completed study or used skills in employment that are the same as those required in the Certificate IV or Diploma of TESOL. I.e. a higher level qualification does not automatically imply the same fields of study or development of the same skills.

4. Professional Development in VET
All
trainers and assessors must undertake professional development in VET, and specifically in competency based training and assessment. This is to ensure they have current knowledge and skills in vocational training, learning and assessment. Simply delivering training and assessment does not constitute professional development. Examples include; university studies, VET level studies, workshop focused on adult education, undergoing the RPL process for the 10688NAT - Diploma of TESOL.
