Professional Development

Meeting the requirements for a Trainer in the Australian Vocational Education and Training Sector.

    TESOL Trainer Professional Development Form

     This form has been developed in accordance with Clauses 1.13 - 1.16 of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015.

    An RTO’s training and assessment must be delivered only by persons who have:
    • vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed;
    • current industry skills directly relevant to the training and assessment being provided;
    • current knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning that informs their training and assessment; and
    •  TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor or a qualification in adult education at a diploma or higher level.

    Please complete the below form to provide information about your professional development and current industry experience.

    1. Industry Experience
    For TESOL Trainers and Assessors, industry experience is experience teaching ESL.
    For example; Teaching speaking at ESL classes on Monday nights from 7pm - 9pm at XYZ Training College from the 10/01/14 till  current date.
    Please note: Teaching the TESOL Course does not count towards industry experience.

    2. Professional Development in VET
    All trainers and assessors must undertake professional development in VET, and specifically in competency based training and assessment. This is to ensure they have current knowledge and skills in vocational training, learning and assessment. Simply delivering training and assessment does not constitute professional development.
    Examples include;
    • university studies
    • VET level studies (e.g. Completing TAE upgrade)
    • workshop focused on adult education
    • completion of individual units of competency (e.g. LLN unit)
    Please note: Teaching the TESOL Course or ESL classes does not count towards VET professional development.

    3. Continuous Improvement
    As an RTO it is important that we continuously improve the training and assessment services that we provide. Please list any actions you have taken in the last 12 months to improve your training / assessment methods, processes, support resources, etc. and the approximate date that you implemented the improvement.
    For example: May 2019 - updated training session powerpoint slides to clarify the use of pronouns after a student approached me with a query)

    4. Evidence of Professional Development
    Please upload any documentation that you can provide to support the information provided on this Form. Additional information can be sent via post or email to admin@lti.edu.au
