Traditional Distance Learning

You can complete the Certificate IV in TESOL at your own pace with the support of a qualified distance facilitator to guide you through your studies. With distance learning, you can enrol anytime and have the option of completing the course full time over 5 months or part time over 12 months.

Course Duration

Full-time: 5 months from commencement
Part-time: 12 months from commencement

Study Hours

There is no set schedule for distance learning, however we recommend allowing 5-7 hours per week for part-time students and 16 - 18 hours per week for full-time students. This is to allow for the study of course materials, the completion of assessment and practical placement.

Practical Placement

_There is a 20 hour commitment required for Practical Placement in an English as a Second Language (ESL) class. This includes 14 hours of observation and 6 hours of supervised practice teaching in an approved placement organisation. If you study the course via distance learning, it will be your responsibility to find a placement organisation, however LTi or your course facilitator may be able to assist you to find a suitable Practice Teaching situation by way of suggesting institutions to approach etc. In some cases you may need to be willing to do things such as:
  • Travel some distance each week to the organisation that you will be doing your practical placement with.
  • Take some time off from work each week or for a short period sometime during your enrolment, in order to attend your practical placement.
  • You may need to allow for travel and accommodation costs if suitable situations are only located a significant distance from home.

Course Fee

The payment options for the course fee vary depending on how quickly you pay your fee. The quicker you pay, the cheaper the fee.
All options below are inclusive of the $200 non-refundable deposit. Please read the Payment and Refund Policy for more information.

Centrelink Support Payments

In most cases, if you wish to receive Centrelink Support Payments while studying this course you will need to be a full time student. To be classed as full time student, you will need to indicate on your enrolment for that you wish to enrol for a 5 month period.
Individuals who enrol in this course may be eligible to receive Centrelink support payments, including; Austudy, Pensioner Education Supplement and Youth Allowance. As Centrelink payments are subject to individual circumstances, we recommend enquiring with Centrelink about whether you qualify for the support payments, while enrolled in our course.
