


Will this course alone qualify me to teach English as a second language?
The course will qualify you to teach English as a second language. There are two outcomes for students who complete the Certificate IV in TESOL:
Outcome A (for those with no previous teaching experience or qualifications): Will be able to Teach English in a less demanding capacity eg: To groups of visiting students on short term study tours.To small groups of migrants in a supervised and limited capacity for the development of general English skills. To overseas students on an individual tuition or small group tutorial basis. Overseas in Institutions not governed by Australian standards where predominantly conversation English teaching is required.
Outcome B (for experienced or qualified participants): For participants who enter the course with EITHER : a recognised general teaching qualification OR a recognised degree or diploma AND at least 800 hours of classroom teaching experience (e.g. in general TAFE teaching, or, overseas English teaching experience, etc)
When is the latest I can enrol for a course?
Generally enrolments close upon course commencement, however if you have a special circumstance that will prevent you from enroling before the course starts please call 1300 660 809 to talk about your situation.
Is there an exam at the during or at the end of the course?
There is no exam as the course is structured by a series of tasks that address and the various aspects of each individual unit.
What does the practical component of this course entail?
There is a total of 20 hours practical teaching combining both obsevation and putting new learnt skills into practice. So that our students receive high quality education, practical placement must take place in a real life 'Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages' situation. This ensures students receive the rich authentic experience. What are the age limits for TESOL?
The minimum age for TESOL is 16 years. There is no maximum age.
Is Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) available?
