To qualify for the Certificate IV in
TESOL you will complete 12 core
(compulsory) units, and 2 elective
units (chosen from a selection of 11 electives).
You will also complete some practice teaching. You will spend
about 20 hours in an ESL classroom, observing an experienced
teacher and teaching your own lessons. You will prepare and deliver
lessons in speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, spelling
and pronunciation.
Your enrolment in any format is valid for 12 months from your start of study date.
There is no examination for the course. All theoretical assessment tasks are contained within the TESOL Made Practical Workbook (for the core units) and the TESOL For All Situations Workbook (for the elective units). You will also need to complete practical placement as part of your practical assessment. Your prac supervisor will observe your teaching, give feedback and complete assessment reports on your performance. You will be required to submit your lesson plans, a copy of any materials used, your self-evaluation and prac supervisor's reports to your facilitator.
You will be given multiple opportunities to "pass" the Course and
will be provided with support, encouragement and guidance as you
progress through the Assessment process. Completion of the Course
in any format is dependent on you demonstrating competency in the
Practice Teaching component of the Course.
